****RINGER OF THE WEEK****Hamilton De Holanda Quintet: Casa De Bituca

Hamilton De Holanda brings his 10 stringed mandolin and voice to lead a rich team of Andre Vasconcellos/b, Daniel Santiago/g-voc, Gabriel Grossi/harm and Marcio Bahia/dr on a glowing tribute to Milton Nascimento. Santiago’s clever arrangements take you to folk villages, with rich vocal choruses as on “Mar da Indiferenca” and teaming with Nascimento himself on the endearing “Bicho Homem” and the bonus track “Guerra E Paz I.” Rich string work form de Holanda’s mandolin exquisitely dances alongside Grossi’s harmonica on the richly textured “Boa De Meia, Bola De Gude” and “Club Da Esquina #2” while a more spartan team has the leader delivering rich arias as  on “Maria Tres Filhos.” Alcione contributes rich vocals on “Travessia” while the lithe pulses supplied by Bahia and Vasconcellos deftly swing with a Brazilian lilt. A true joy.
