Trumpeter Jonathan Saraga fronts a warmly toned post bop sextet of Remy Le Boeuf/s, Aki Ishiguro/g, Chris Pattishall/p-key, Rick Rosato/b and Kenneth Salters/dr through some clever originals and covers. Of the latter, the two horns float lilke cirrus clouds as Ishiguro provides drapery on a delicate take of The Beatles’ “The Fool On The Hill” and Pattishall provides a hip keyboard with Salters grooving the ride cymbal for Saraga’s autumnal horn on Cedar Walton’s “The Great Journey.” Saraga bites hard on his intro to “Frim Roots,” delivers a bel canto opening for Pattishall’s elegant piano on “New World,” and the two horns puff as Ishiguro lurks around the corners on the shadowy “Sabbath Prayer.” Strong and intelligent.
