Rock bluesy guitarist Stew Cutler teams with friends Bill McClellan/dr, Nick Semrad-Julian Pollack/org, Chulo Gatewood/b and vocalists JT Bowen and Bobby Harden for an album of roots and boogie. Harden’s leathered voice growls out a Southern swamper on Gregg Allman’s “Not My Cross to Bear” while Pollack’s Hammond oozes on “Gumbo Trane.” Cutler himself gives the album a “live” feel throughout, shuffling along on “The Grind” and “Brookline” while giving a gospel feel behind Bowen on a richly “When Something Is Wrong With My Baby.” The band sounds like they’ve done many a night at juke joints, as the team works together like a well oiled three legged race.
