This two disc collection is a clever ballet adaptation of the story made famous by Disney’s Frozen, but with a reversal of sex roles (which isn’t noticed here, as there is no dialogue). Kenji Bunch teams with OrchestraNEXT directed by Brian McWhorter for a two part collection of lovely music that mixes modern classical with contemporary stage sounds. Most of the music is between 1-5 minutes, with a ten minute “The Palace Bedroom” being the largest opus. For the most part, the sounds are wondrous, accessible, melodic and optimistic. A few moments of dramatic percussion flow with climactic resolutions, but without a doubt, the music here is enjoyable without the visuals, which must be impressive. A great idea, well executed and accessible for public consumption. What more could you ask?
