Pianist Tal Cohen leads an exciting post bop quintet which includes all star alto saxist Greg Osby as well as an impressive lineup of Jamie Oehlers/ts, Robert Hurst/b and Nate Winn/dr through a collection of originals plus a cover. Of the latter, Cohen delivers an intricate piano while Osby sighs to Hurst’s pulsating bass on “Nardis” while the team forms sharp bopping angles on “Great PK (For Shuli).” Cohen displays a slinky touch with the quartet on the slightly abstract “Ducks” while is spacious on the dreamy “Gavetsch,” forming a Monk groove with the rhythm section on the bluesy title track. Osby, for his part, is in rich form and gets whimsical on “Chopin Meets Abach.” , while Oehlers is fluffy on the placid “Lo Haya.” Full of pleasant joys.
