The unorthodox trio of pianist Jorn Swart, violist Benjamin Von Gutzeit and bass clarinetist Lucas Pino deliver equally unorthodox sounds on this Decalogue of originals from the pianist. Eerie bowings akin to a Haunted Mansion permeate pieces like “ Elefante Triste” while sonic images of Mrs. Havisham’s house in Great Expectations are created during the shadowy “Feldmania” and “Students of the Macabre.” Sonatas for murder mysteries are formed on “Riddle” and “Odd Christmas Song” while a moonless night creates dark moods on “Nocturne.” Keep a night light on for this one.
