Sharon Paige & Keith Ingham: Burke Beautiful

The songsmith Johnny Burke is given a spotlight on this collection of material ranging from the classic to obscure. Delivered by pianist Keith Ingham and vocalist Sharon Paige,  well known pieces such as the quaint “It Could Happen To You” and conversant “What’s New” feature Paige’s theatrical vocal charms. She sounds intimate and tender during “Suddenly It’s Spring” and “ He Makes Me Feel I’m Lovely” while the addition of Ron McClure?S bass and alto sax/flute of Bobby Porcelli and swagger to the bluesy “Get Rid of Monday,” the swinging “One, Tow Button Your Shoe” and gentle “Like Someone In Love.” A cleverly Brazilianed “You Don’t Have To Know The Language” and peppy “Aren’t You Glad You’re You” feature some lovely flute, while Ingham gets cozy with the singer on the obscure “ Humpty Dumpty Heart.”  The composer noted best for his days with Bing Crosby stands well on his own here.
