Louis Sclavis/Dominique Pifarely/Vincent Courtois: Asian Fields Variations

Louis Sclavis teams his clarinet with Dominique Pifarely/s violin and Vincent Courtois’ violoncello to create some rich tapestries of almost liturgical “East Meets West” meditations. A piece such as “Mont Myon” has Sclavis in rich, low tones while the strings contrast with agitation, while the strings get more pastoral and it’s Sclavis’ turn to get a bit free and raspy on “Asian Fields.” Some modern classical themes are produced by COurtois on “Done and Done” with the strings show some pluck as they pizzicato through “Les Nuits” with lower tones provided by the clarinet. Rich textures, sometimes reflecting a walk around the Bodi Tree.
