Some of the best Brazilian sounds come from the hand and voice of Eliane Elias, as she teams up with Randy Brecker, Mike Mainieri, Mark Kibble, Amilton Goday, Joao Bosco and the famous Toquinho for a dozen samba bathing beauties. She sounds gloriously Peggy Lee-ish on “ You’re Getting To Be A Habit with Me” while she teams up with Take 6’s Mark Kibble for a festive “ Copacabana.” On the mid tempo “By Hand (Em Maos) and pulsating “Speak Low” with Brecker’s horn, the town voices create luscious vocal sauce, while on her own, she is upbeat and clear on the delightful “O Pato.” Amilton Godoy joins in for a two piano read o f An Up Dawn” that is a joy, while Toquinho does ain intimate and seductive duet on “Not to Cry (Pra Nao Chorar).” Elias makes breezy bossas like “ Sambou Sambou” and “Samba de Orly” sound easy, but that’s the joy of her art. This one’s a must for fans of simmering sounds.
