Rick Cutler: Daydreams (Probably)

Rick Cutler does just about all of it here on this 21 pieces collection of originals and a handful of creative interpretations. He mostly plays piano, but intermittently throws in drums, keyboards and soprano sax. His touch on solo piano is always rich and lyrical, showing reflection on flowing pieces such as “Overalls,” Walking Meditation” and the title track, while his trio of “Hymns” are heartfelt and faithful. With drums, his is equally rich and rewarding as on “The Tall Road” while his keyboards are soulful on “Amuse Bouce 6.” Branice McKenzie is expressive on a read of Stevie Wonder’s “Black Orchid” and Charlotee Durkee’s indie delivery of “Tomorrow Is A Long Time” freshens up the Dylan standard. Deeply personal, making you want to know more about the heart of a guy who composes, plays and think this sincerely.
