The group Snaggle consists of Nick MacLean/key, Mike Murray/g, Max Forster/tp, Doug Moore/b, Graem Wallace/ts, Tom Grosset/dr and guest Brownman Ali/tp and they have an attractive allegiance to vintage hard bop. The team sounds 70s funky on a couple of tunes, as Murray’s guitar snaps on “Nonuhno” and MacLean’s keys gets spacy and synthesized for Wallace’s tenor on “Saw.” Wallace’s big toned tenor sighs on the bluesy “Sad Ritual” while Brownman’s horn is sweet with delight on “Theorum” and pops on the bopping “Lagaan.” Music for the toes, feet and heart.
