Nu Haven Kapelye: What’s Nu?

Traditional Klezmer gets modernized on this album that will make you swing and shving. You’ve got a minion+ of an ensemble with bassist David Chevan directing traffic of violins, reeds, brass, voices and keys galore. Edda Rubenstein, Jackie Sidle and the “Seltzer Sisters” form a celebrative chorus on “Ale Brider” and swing through the shtetl on a Yiddish “Bei Mir Bist Du Schein.” You’ll want to join in the circle dances as the flutes swirl on “Kiev Sher” and the team mixes themes from Shaft with Fairfax on “Zorg Nit Mame.” Everyone bops as Chevan’s bass bounces to “Eliyahu Hanavi” and the overall joy concludes with the arms in the air on “Hora Midor Di Romania.” The band takes you through the shul of jazz.
