JW Jones: High Temperature

Here’s a blues rocker that sounds like he has dirt underneath his fingernails. JW-Jones sings and plays guitar here with a team including Laura Greenberg-Dominic John Davis/b, Mathieu Lapensee-Bryan Owings, Kevin McKendree/key and Colin Linden/g through a mix of originals and hip covers. He shows his guitar chops as he boogies with the best on Lonnie Mack’s “Wham.” He’s got a street wise growl in his mid-tenor voice, and it works well on the fuzzy “Murder In My Heart For The Judge” as well as the delta mooded and earth-toned “Out In The Woods.”  He throws in a dash of C&W on his licks on the funky “How Many Hearts” and gets edgy during the hip riffing “Already Know.” The band is tight, and is able to move from snappy shuffles to hard hitting rockers at the flick of a drumstick. A good one!
