Guitarist Frank Kohl has an original rich and thick tone on this pleasing quartet album with Steve LaSpina/b, Tom Kohl/p and Jon Doty/dr. He displays his ability flow like linen drapes on his solo read of “Beautiful Love,” while his hefty sounds gets ominous on the dark “Late Night.” His delivery and collection of ideas veers towards shades of blue, and the color works well on the relaxed “Rock and Roll,” comfy “Richman Poorman” and bossa’d “My Romance.” The rhythm team is as supportive as well, delivering ripples of sound on ”Rising Tide” and delivering a soft pillow on the cozy “Love Letters.” Six strings of satisfaction.
