A cozy night with friends is recorded by vocalist/guitarist James Lee Stanley and his team of Cheryl Prashker/perc and Chad Watson/b as he mixes stories, originals and covers on this intimate hour + of an evening’s fun. He has some clever interpretations of Baby Boomer classics, as he gives a folksy take of The Rolling stones’ “Miss You” and gets a relaxed and bluesy read of The Beatles’ “Drive My Car.” His voice is a light Jim Croce, and makes it work well o his own thoughtful pieces such as “Worry Bout You” and “All I Ever Wanted.” A bit of commentary on religion is exposed on ”Do It In His Name” which is either about hypocrisy or anyone who has an absolute standard of judging right and wrong. His comfort zone is being a cozy and congenial storyteller, though and he does an excellent job on “I Don’t Want To Talk About It” while he gets a bit on the rowdy side on the singalong “The More I Drink.” Jimmy Buffett for the intimate.
