BassDrumBone: The Long Road

The trio of Mark Helias/b, Gerry Hemingway/dr and Ray Anderson/tb bring two cds worth of collective compositions and improvisations together. The team goes from Crescent City to Bebop on “ Oh Yeah” and swings like forever on “Quomput.” There are a pair of concert recordings, and the team stretches out the blues on “L and’s End” while going free and frenetic on “The Line UP.” Jason Moran brings his piano in for a thoughtful “Why Not” and” Tone L” and Joe Lovano’s earthy tenor sizzles on “BluRay” and the hip bopper “Cherry Pickin.” Loose grooves.
