This five song ep (which would have passed for an entire album 20 years ago, but that’s another story) features earth toned vocalist Robin Barnes in an intimate setting. She mixes her voice with Pat Casey/b, Danny Abel-Steve Masakowski/g and Herlin Riley-Shannon Powell, and her gospel drenched delivery works amazingly well with the rumbling percussion on “The Way Young Lovers Do” and the bluesy guitar of “Great Day.” She sounds earnest and coy on the cozy “Little Jazz Bird” as the bass and guitar bounce in ¾ time, and her intimate take of “My Funny Valentine” his hushed and harrowing. Very impressive-any LA gigs coming up?
