Trygve Seim: Rumi Songs

Poetry of Jelaluddin Rum and music from all around the world are delivered by the clear and yet grayish voice of Tora Augestad and the wide ranging support from Frode Haitli/acc, Svante Henryson/cello and leader Trygve Seim on tenor and soprano saxes.

While Augestad delivers the lyrics in a classic Leider tradition, the musicians get creative in the musical atmospheres. Brooding Moorish strings surround “Leaving Myself” while Haitli’s accordion team with Seim’s gasping tenor for a mix of Nuevo Tango and calls to prayer during “Whirling Rhythms.” Augestad is almost Gaellic in her delivery amongst the sighing sax and accordion on the dreamy “In Your Beauty” and is languid on “The Drunk and the Madman.” Civilizations don’t collide as much as greet each other as friends as Seim’s soprano celebrates on with Augestad’s vocal charms on “There Is Some Kiss We Want.” World-wise.
