Uptempo grooves and R&B horns are the rule of the day for vibist Steve Raybine’s album. He teams up with all star bassist Steve Gomez along with Nate Van Fleet/dr, Jeff Scheffler/g, Doyle Tipler/g and a horn section of Tipler/tp, Stan Harper/ts and Chris Acker/tb for his collection of accessible originals. You get lots of Memphis Soul here with Chad Stoner’s tenor sax leading the way with Camile Metoyer Moten’s voice on “What’s Wrong With You Baby” while the horns snap with Gomez on “Sno Fun.” Some up guitar riffs chime along on “Kickin’ Back” and Doyle Tipler gets into a Miles mood when he mutes his horn on “Coffee And Jazz.” Raybine himself is sleek on the vibes as on the funky “Kiss Me” and upbeat “Del Mar Beach,” singing with style on “Coffee and Jazz” and throwing in some keyboards for “Desert Pearl.” Contemporary sounds for the radio.
