This album should be titled “Colors FROM The Masters” as Turre has assembled some , of the biggest names for a strong mainstream album. Kenny Barron/p, Ron Carter/b, Javon Jackson/ts, Jimmy Cobb/dr and Cyro Baptista/perc join in for a swinging session filled with flexed muscles. Turre’s tone glistens along with Javon’s pungent tenor on his bluesy “ Taylor Made.” Barron is genteel and classy on “Quietude” and Cobb is the master at keeping the music at a jogger’s pulse on the bopping JoCo Blue” and the steady Eddy of “Corcovado.” Turre has fun at the shell game, blowing through them on the elegant “Mellow D For RC” while the team has some fun on a Monkish read of Wayne Shorter’s elliptical “United” and exposing hidden corners of Thelonious Monk’s “Reflections.” This is the kind of music that makes you fall in love with jazz over and over.
