Fusion is in the air as Scott Kinsey uses piano, synthesizer and vocoder in a mix of settings that hearken back to the days of Weather Report on this rhythmic romp. He mixes and matches with artists including Seamus Blake/ts, Tim Lefevbre/b and Arto Tuncboyaciyan/perc with pieces taking you to Asia meeting jazz on the percussive “Rave” and tablas and keyboards jamming on “Lies”. Vocalist Lalah Hathaway gives some R&B soul with her vocals on “Siya” and the team gets fuky on the rocky “Money Maker.” Zawinul influenced synthesizers fill the room on “Burbank Boulevard” along with Blake’s tenor and Arto’s voice. Deep grooves close the album with a loping “Dream Catcher” that meld Steve Tavaglione’s woodwinds with the cavalcade of a cattle drive. A throwback of sound with present day pulses.
