Trumpeter Dominick Farinacci displays style and swing on this richly swinging collection of tunes. He brings together a wide swath of artists including Larry Goldings/key, Christian McBride/b, Dean Parks/g, Jamey Haddad/perc and Steve Gadd/dr along with other guests for material that can swagger as on “Baboleo” or create romantic colors as on “Afternoon In Puebla.” Farinacci’s horn is warm, working in contrast to the trudging pulse of “Senor Blues” while a Latinized read of the rock hit “Sunshine of Your Love” complete with hip B3, is an absolute joy. Jacob Collier lends his voice to the clip clopping and unrushed “Somebody That I Used To Know” while Golding’s lingering piano on “Black Coffee” and his delicate pax de deux with the leader on “Parlor Song” make you wish for more, more and more of the same. Strongest when most delicate.
