Pianist Antonio Adolfo takes classic hard bop pieces from the 50s and 60s and puts a Latin Lover’s touch in the arrangements. Teamed with Jesse Sadoc/tp, Marcelo Martins/ts-ss, Serginho Trombone/tb, Leo Amuedo/g, Jorge Helder/b, Rafaei Barata/dr-perc and Ande Siqueira/perc, Adolfo adds snap and sizzle to Benny Golson standards like a percolating “Killer Joe” and a sensuously slithering “Whisper Not.” The percussion sashays on “Stolen Moments” while Sadoc’s horn glides lithely over “ All The Things You Are.” Adolfo’s own Luar Da Bahia” is endearingly warm, and “Cascavel” has a festive intricacy with Helder’s bass bouncing with delight. This one’s going to get under your skin!
