Guitarist Fabrizio Sotti teams up with Francisco Mela/dr and Peter Slavov/b for some rich and swinging interplay on this collection of mostly originals. On electric guitar, he leans toward a rich and tensile tone, gently picking on “Redemption” and bopping along Mela’s ride cymbal on the pulsating “Dangerous Walk.” His bend notes for the blues is attractive on”Beginning Now” and he’s not adverse to adding effects, as on his intro to “The Bridge” he gets a bit playful before displaying patient use of notes and space.
On acoustic guitar he sounds folksy on “Beginning Now” and his classical guitar sway on Tom Jobim’s “How Insensitive” is wonderfully lonely.
The supporting team knows when to hold ‘em and fold ‘em, as they make their entrance to “So Far, So Close” with quiet deference, but also can dig deep into a groove on “Forty.” Nice workout of a three stranded chord, bound well together.
