Pianist Julian Hartwell brings together a swinging team of Paul Horner/eb, Jon Cannon/b, Jake Kelberman/g, Tom Cullen/dr and an occasional horn section of Noah Hocker/tp, Seth Ebersole/sax and Harry Forlenza-Bailey/tb. All the songs are originals and display a sophisticated sense of tradition and swing. He shows some nice soul on the keyboards as the horns sway on “Stay Easy Brow” while the acoustic boppers “Say No More” and “Double Shot” let Nocker and Ebersole open up on the open road. Hartwell’s own touch on the piano is confident and clean, as on the playful “Sweet Dreams” and easy back beat of “KnewBlews.” Hints of Horace Silver abound on this upbeat delivery.
