Pianist Lafayette Harris Jr delivers a good time of mainstream jazz with various friends and guests. His core trio with George DeLancey/b and Will Terrill/dr is flexible and crisp, and serves the various soloists with aplomb. Houston Person brings his beefy tenor along with Caleb Curtis/as-ss and Antoine Drye/tp for a large segment of the album, and he blows warm over Harris’ rich chords on “In A Sentimental Mood.” Terrill is razor sharp along with Curtis on a tapping title track and the team dances well under Terrill’s brass on the fun “The Wheelhouse.” Jazzmeia Horn struts well as she delivers some hip vocals on “Drinking Wine Blues” and Noel Simone’ Wippler gets dreamy with Person over Harris’ thoughtful touch on “Little Kevin’s Embrace.” Easy on the ears, and good for the feet.
