Voo Davis takes the blues from the back porch to the city streets here with a team of Craig Borchers/dr, Michael Burkart/B3, Reggie Winterland/b, Calvin Conway/f-harp and Carolyn Broussard-Dorian Rush/voc. As for himself, Davis handles mandolin, pedal steel, keyboards and a whole slew of acoustic and electric guitars, sometimes playing both as on the rocking “Riverside Blues” and “Cajun Sun” which takes you through on a journey through the back roads of the South. His earthy voice works well on the upbeat “When I Get Back To You” and he gets good and gravelly as brushes on the drums and a wailing harp team up with the steel guitar to jump Davis in a back alley on “Low Hanging Fruit.” Some guitar and sound effects create an ominous frame on “Howling Out Your Name” and he shows his picking skills on “Nothing Changed At All.” Impressive mix of vintage and modern.
