STEP ASIDE FRANK AND TONY…Oleg Frish: Duets With My American Idols

Known for his TV show that catered to Russian audiences, vocalist-entertainer Oleg Frish pulls one out of his hat here with a “Duets” album that smokes the ones made by more famous (and aging) stars. He’s backed by a swinging big band and he looks back into his iphone to get some vocalists that are going to make you jump for joy. Gary US Bonds makes you feel like it’s quarter to three on a snappy”You’re Nobody Till Somebody Loves You” while Ben E. King stands by Oleg on a hip and brassy “Day By Day.” Lainie Kazansounds like the Rat Pack had a Big Fat Greek Wedding on “Hello, Dolly” and Tony Orlando ties a yellow ribbon on the fun read of “On The Sunny Side of The Street.” Frish is joyful and buoyant throughout, and make slighting strike with Lou Christie on”When Your Smiling” and is a wild one with Bobby Rydell on “Volare” with some fun strings. Frish goes it alone quite well on a swinging “DancingOn The Ceiling” while Peggy March follows him wherever he may go on a sweet “The Way You Look Tonight.” This is a joy to the ear and makes music fun again.
