When I took music lessons, and would play a piece for my teacher, the main thing that he would emphasize was, “Remember, every song doesn’t have to be ‘Happy New Year.’” In other words, subtlety can be enjoyable. Cases in point…
Ligro consists of Agam Hamzah/g, Gusti Hendy/dr-perc and Adi Darmawan/b. For the five songs on this albumyou get some Middle eastern moods on “Bliker”, Asian guitar strings on “Pentagonal Krisis” spacy bass sounds on “The 20th Century Collaseu” and ominous sounds on”Tragic Hero,” but no matter how it begins, each song ends with THUNDEROUS heavy metal rock guitar and had banging drums that create a frantic cataclysm of sounds. By the 4th song, you’re just waiting for the drumsticks to drop.
The team of Xavi Reija/dr and Dusan Jevtovic/g essentially waste no time to build up to the avalanch, as heavy metal thunder starts at the bell on the title track and “Decaying Sky.” Jazzy percussion makes “Something In Between” a bit of a variation, but it too starts thumping away like a Black Sabbath album gone wild. Plodding rhythms on “No Hope” and a constant crescendo on “New Pop” leave you gasping for air.
