Pianist Luis Perdomo teams up with all stars Mimi Jones/b and Rudy Royston/dr for an impressive trio workout on this collection of originals minus one. The clever reading of the Bee Gees’ “How Deep Is Your Love” is a thoughtful and delightful jaunt, while the team sounds impressionistic with Royston intricate work on ”Two Sides of Goodbye.” Jones’ bass is a major factor here, going intricate with Perdomo’s dramatic touch on “Light Slips In” and bringing some tensile elasticity as she intersects with drums and bass on the kinetic “Old City.” Some vocals add texure to Jones’ bopping bass on the hip vibes of “Aaychdee” and deft interplay feels like a scene from “The Marriage of Figaro” as characters come and go at an alarming rate on “Days Gone Days Ahead.” Rich, thoughtful and swinging.
