Andy Sheppard plays it cool and quiet here with his team of Eivind Aarset/g, Michel Benita/b and Sebastian Rochford on a sepia-toned collection of mostly originals. There is a 3 parted “Aoidh, Na Dean Cadal Idir” which sets the tone with feathery soprano sax, misty bass and floating brushes, while complete tunes such as “I Want To Vanish” find Sheppard’s soprano glistening while Asarset’s guitar and Benita’s bass wafts along. On tenor, Sheppard also keeps it luminous as a full moon glows with a lonely bass on “The Impossibility of Silence” and he breathlessly sighs on “Medication.” The most assertive piece is the take of “I See Your Face Before Me” where the rhythm team delivers some turbulence and some rumbling which occurs on “They Aren’t Perfect and Neither Am I.” Pastel hues permeate this subtle session
