Drummer Dafnis Prieto never stops moving. Each of his albums has something interesting and fresh to offer, and no two sound exactly alike. This time around, he’s got a team of Peter Apfelbaum-ts-ss-mel, Felipe Lamoglia/as, Mike Rodriguea/tp, Manuel Valera/p and Johannes Weidenmueller/b for some advanced post bop material. Prieto keeps busy underneath all of the material, with the songs having some highly complex arrangements. For example, the dramatic “Back and Forth” charges ahead with piano and drums going man a mano with the riveting horn sections, while the folksy title track has Prieto’s drums revving up to alternating horns delivering a clever theme. The team saunters on the tango”Flores” and runbles with Apfelbaum’s soporano on the funky and staccato’d “Blah Blah” while the percussion gets wild and chaotic like a street festival on “ Two For One.” An impressive mix of music for the head and heart.
