Pianist Billy Lester displays a wide reach with his fingers on this solo album of originals. He has a wondrous sense ofsounds as he does dancing fugue on “Songbook Harmony” while his devotion to Thelonious Monk is spotlighted on the fun “Spree-ing.” Complex melodies and tones have his fingers chasing after something on “Self-Encounters” and the powerful “Jamba Swing” and his ability to create dark hues springs up on ”Blues For Charlie Christian.” He’s got nimble fingers all throughout the eight songs, mixing intricate sounds with a joyful sense of celebration.
