Bill Gable: No Straight Lines

Bill Gable comes across as an old soul throwback to the 70s when men were singer/songwriters and carved out their own unique sound and style. He teams up with a team that includes Steve Rodby/b, Larry Goldings/key as well as a mixture of flamenco guitarists, cellists and Mediterranean sounding horns, reeds and strings. His voice has a sort of Leo Sayer earnestness about it, , and mixed with the spacious accompaniment creates warm moods. There’s lots of classical guitar about, as he plays and strums on ”A Million Miles Away” while flamenco sketches come up with flugel horns and Armenian duduk’s on “Where You Find It” Middle Eastern moods add spice on the heavenly “All Are One” and “No Straight Lines” while Gable himself keeps the lyrics sounding like American folk tales. The mix of exotic and traditional keeps each song fresh, and Gable delivers the lyrics like he believes what he sings. Impressive.
