Hypercolor: Hypercolor

Power Trios. We’re not taking Bill Evans here, but more like Cream or Hendrix. The team of Eyal Maoz/g, James Ilgenfritz/b and Lukas Ligeti/dr take yo back to the days of 70s heavy metal rockers and sometimes into the future here with a collection of originals. Lots of thunderous drums make for 7.2 Richter Scales on “Squeaks” and “Chen” that feature heavy back beats and roaring guitar licks. A hint of Wes Montgomery pops up on “Forget” before a Carl Palmer-inspired avalanche of drum sounds close out the pieces. Some restraint by Maoz is delivered on “Far Connection” along with some bluesy bass, but all subtlety is thrown out the window on the repetitive riffs on “Transit” and hard hammered boogie on “Palace.” Head banger heaven, here.
