The Doors: Feast of Friends

So you want to be a rock and roll star?

Here is a dvd that includes the only film the iconic group The Doors produced, which is, of course, about them. Essentially it chronicles their 1968 tour in various venues as well as back stage, back in the studio and in the back seat of a limo intimate scenes. Also included is a TV broadcast called The Doors Are Open which spotlights one of their performances in London, a “Feast of Friends Encore” with the band and then a riveting concert performance of the band in 1967 delivering “The End.” Mixed in with all of this is much political commentary, much of it concerning the Vietnam war which was tearing America apart at the time.”
Speaking of tearing apart, the biggest take away on the over 2 hour collection of sights and sounds is that Jim Morrison looks like he’s in a drug induced haze almost every waking hour. Is he drunk? Stoned? Bemused? Tired? Whatever the reason, he is in a stupor in every local, whether being approached by adoring fans, playing the piano and singing before friends, being interviewed by an apostate priest (who can’t even get the meaning of Pentecost right), or on stage. He seems to be living in another world; breaking on through to the other side? If this is what stardom leads to, it’s better to take the advice of the Apostle Paul and “live a quiet life…and work with your hands.”
