Roseanna Vitro: Clarity-The Music of Claire Fischer

Vocalist Roseanna Vitro does a smart call by taking the music of Claire Fischer, which is usually associated with lots of reeds, and putting it into an environment of rhythm and strings on this release. Along with Mark Soskin/p, Dean Johnson/b, Tim Horner/dr and Mino Cinelu/perc, Vitro brings in Sara Caswell’s violin to add rich harmonies, framework and drama.

Vitro’s voice is clear and yet able to be flexible enough to go through a variety of moods. Romantic tunes such as “Web of Love” mix percussion, piano and longing strings, while a Monkish “Swinging With The Duke” veers close to bluegrass. Swaying Latin material such as “Seagull” and “Life’s Journey” are coaxed along by the fervent percussion , contrasted with hushed voice and piano on the serenading “Pensativa.” The music flows like exotic fruits blending together in a juicer, ending up with a rich and delicious and refreshing drink to savor over and over.
