In case your Dutch is rusty, the name of the band is “Die Glorreichen Sieben” which means “The Magnificent Seven.” Any Yul Brenner/ Steve McQueen fans out there?
Anyway, the group is going to FURTHER play with your mind because they are a quartet, consisting of Kalle Kalima/g, Flo Gotte/b and for further fun, a pair of drummers Christian Lillinger and Alfred Vogel. How’s your heart feeling now?
They take up the songbook of Neil Young and DO NOT sound like Crazy Horse! “Cinnamon Girl” has been stretch, dragged and metalicized almost beyond recognition, while “Heart of Gold” and “Ready for the Country” are filled with thunderous drumming and edgy electrical guitar. A couple of acoustic pieces such as “After the Gold Rush” and “Like a Hurricane” give you a chance to take a deep breath. You gotta admire the fearless moxie of these gents, and if you’re a fret head, you’ll have lots to appreciate on this white knuckler of a roller coaster ride.
