Associated with famed trumpeter Tomasz Stanko, pianist Marcin Wasilweski has been making an impressive name for himself with his own strong and creative albums. This one has him with his working trio of Slawomir Kurkiewicz/b and Michal Miskiewicz/dr as well as Joakim Milder joining in on the tenor sax. They bring out some creative takes covering Herbie Hancock’s “Actual Proof” with style and aplomb, while Wasilewski taps into his inner McCoy Tyner for a feisty reading of The Police’s “Message in a Bottle.” You get some wonderful reflective lyricism by the pianist on “Austin,” while some deft interplay with Miskiewicz’s sticks underscores Milder’s cool breeze of a sax on “ Do Rycerzy, do Szlachty, do Mieszczan.” Music here is clear, clean and creative-gotta get them out to the Best Coast, as they’re way overdue.
