Written and produced by Christopher Bono, this collection of seven pieces of music combines modern classical music and ambient sounds in a fascinating mix of instruments and movements.
The Prague FILMharmonic Orchestra includes 34 strings along with various reeds and brass, while Javier Diaz adds various drums and percussion, and Bono contributes a wide variety of electronics, guitars and assorted thises and that’s as well as providing vocals with Phillippe Garnier and Bora Yoon. There are IV major movements to Bardo, which although relate to Eastern Mysticism, can be appreciated without the associated worldview, since “all good things come from God” as the Bible says. The first movement has hints of Vaughan Williams’ lyricism along with moody and dramatic classicism, while ominous strings swirl with percussion on part II. Hints of Mahleresque adventurism and beauty permeate Bardo IV along with some fragrant guitar work, while the segues between the major parts, ranging from 1-7 minutes give off more of the ambience of an Eno adventure. Fascinating textures will please modern music fans.
