You can tell by the feel on this session that trumpeter/composer Tom Denielian has kept company as a sideman for the likes of The Temptations, The O’Jays, The Four Tops and The Spinners. This disc has him in a funky and soulful mood that mixes danceable beats with contemporary jazz stylings. He’d in possession of a golden tone, and uses it well with a rotating team of rhythm, keyboards and horns. Melodies that have more hooks than a fisherman’s cap are found on “Blue Caller,” “Paradigm Shift” and “Ancient Impulse,” while some modern techno comes into play on “Land of the Blind” and “The Longing.” Danielian takes most of the solos here, and he’s got a warm, crisp and upbeat delivery on these infectious grooves. Definitely made to get you in a good mood.
