Anne Ducros: Either Way

Subtitled “From Marilyn to Ella” this album by vocalistsAnne Ducros purportedly takes us through a semi history of female singing styles. She does some clever re-arranging of wll known songs, such as giving a Kenny Rankinish 70s feel to “Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend” and a country lilt permeates “I Wanna Be Loved By You.” An R&Bish take of Ellington’s “It Don’t Mean A Thing” has a nice feel, and she can also go pop on, as on her take of “But Not For Me.” Most appealing is when less is more, such as her own reflective “Either Way” and the reflective “A Fine Romance” with piano and strings. Nice effort to bring some oldies up to date.
