Scandinavian pianist Bobo Stenson flexes his muscles a bit here on his latest trio release with Anders Jormin/b and Jon Falt/dr. He’s included some Bill Evans and George Russell material this time around, along with the expected wide ranging collection of folk material. Stenson’s signature crystalline sound and spaciousness is still evident on material like “Your Story,” but some assertive percussion is noted on a few tunes such as “Indikon” and “La Perignacion.” Jormin’s bowed bass produces an almost flute-like quality on the haunting title track, while an “Ave Maria” is gloriously contemplative. A nice mix of moods here by an artist who has his own distinct sound and style, something not to be underappreciated these days.
