****RINGER OF THE WEEK****Brubeck Brothers Quartet: Lifetimes

Maybe there IS something to genetic engineering. Dan/dr and Chris/b-btb Brubeck, sons of the famed Dave, have been releasing some wonderfully original and exciting music lately. This latest one, with Mike DeMicco/g and Chuck Lamb/p along side the family,  does some intriguing re-arranging of tunes by Daddy Dave and also brings in some in-house material, all done to tasty perfection.  Chris’ mixing of bass trombone and bass throughout the session makes for a wide variety of sounds and textures, with “Kathy’s Waltz” and “The Duke” sounding like brand new deliveries, while the  obligatory “Take Five” has a percussion interlude that would have made Joe Morello green with envy. DeMicco’s “Prescence” and Lamb’s “The Girl from Massequa” both have intriguing melodies, with the guitar work on the former being an added plus. Fresh material with original approaches to transcendent tunes. Good to go!
