Tora: Spilling Over

Here’s a singer that’s a bit of a throwback: Tora Fisher is a vulnerable soul who tells stories about her life on this release of pop/rock flavored material. She was the sole survivor of a plane crash, so she sees life a bit more precious than others we come across. This disc mixes  poignant observations about relationships with 70s styled folk-rock. Many of the songs open with her alluring voice supported by a simple piano or acoustic guitar, as on “Drown” or “Being Mr. Cold,” and slowly build up into larger and more dramatic productions. A rock steady “Baby I’m Gone” or a riff based lick on “For Dead” have a live concert feel, while “Better Without” exude an 80s pop optimism. A singer with an old soul.
