Sometimes, you forget that there’s such a thing as simple as beautiful
music. Here, guitarist Hristo Vitchev writes and arranges 11 pieces of
music designed for himself and pianist Weber Iago, and the result is a
collection of music that is charming without being glib, romantic
without being overly sentimental, and passionate without a hint of
cloying. Vitchev’s guitar can strum, pick and stride through his
creative and eloquent compositions, while Iago’s piano has moments of
Lisztian raptures and Chopan-esque elegance. A three movement piece
titled “The Farewell” includes lovely and gentle piano soloing mixed
with conversant musings like two old friends reminiscing in a coffee
bar, while “Memories in Black and White” moves gracefully forward like
pages in an old photo book. Great music for contemplation or
inspiration.
